- One egg yolk beat with one tablespoon of water and a pinch of salt (for optional cream cheese frosting)
- ½ cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts (optional garnish)
- ½ cup finely chopped white chocolate chips or semisweet chips (optional garnish)
- ¼ cup miniature candy canes or peppermint patties crushed into crumbs (optional garnish)
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees C. Unroll crescent roll dough onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper and press firmly into an even layer across the entire surface area. Bake for 10 minutes until golden brown around the edges but not cooked through in the centre; cool completely on a wire rack before filling with the cream cheese filling mixture below.
- In a large bowl, combine cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth; beat in vanilla extract, then add beaten egg yolk mixture; fold in nuts and chocolate chips if desired.
- Spread filling over cooled baked pastry shell(s). Sprinkle crushed candy cane bits/peppermint pieces over the top if using them.
- Cut into squares before serving at parties, ensuring everyone receives their cracker so they don’t have to share!
