My 5-Step Framework For A Successful Business Growth Strategy

My last post was focused on the fact that only 6% of large companies are prepared for growth. This is astounding! My insider knowledge of these large companies led me to create a 5 step framework that will help these companies hack and manage infinite growth.

There is a misconception that large companies can never go wrong or they cannot be disrupted by various forces or reasons. I always like citing the examples of Yahoo! And Blackberry which were huge global brands. 

My experience of almost 30 years working as a business development, business growth, product innovation and product management consultant within these large companies led me to create a framework that will help support business growth within large companies.

According to one of my referenced stats (from PwC) Companies that do well in business growth do the following: 

  1. Focus on their differentiating capabilities
  2. Align cost structure to these capabilities
  3. Organise for growth

Business Growth is one of the areas where there are usually conflict and confusion about the strategy and delivery of growth as related to the company. My framework provides a structured approach.

INWARD LOOK INTO THE BUSINESS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT’S WORKING AND WHAT TO IMPROVE

Successful large companies sometimes develop a sense of invincibility which sometimes make them not really aware of what needs to be done to improve some not-so-visible area of the business that needs to be improved for growth. 

The first step (Pillar 1) is solely focused on objectively analysing different areas of the business on a global scale, identifying areas to improve and then documenting these as areas for improvement via a Business Transformation

The next step is focused on achieving improvements within the company.  The business will need to be transformed to achieve desired results highlighted in the previous stage.

Business continuity is a very popular area within large businesses. There are areas that are sometimes overlooked within business continuity like succession planning. Most businesses get it right, however, some businesses believe any experienced business leader can be brought in to lead the business. It doesn’t always work.
