According to a recent report here from Daily Mail in the UK, up to 160 graduates chase every new job opening. It varies from sector to sector. The fact is simple. There are more people chasing career openings.
I felt I should share a different topic that will benefit my network today. It is an original idea I’ve shared with some of my close contacts. It has been 100% successful so far. It is very simple but quite innovative. Given the fact that there is stiff competition for new roles, why don’t you try a different approach?
The steps are :
- Choose organisations you will like to work with
- Research the hiring managers
- Conduct a gap analysis/ research into the organisations and their current challenges
- Develop a Business Case / Proposal document clearly stating how you have successfully provided solutions to their current challenges. Offer to provide references for these claims.
- Make the document in 4 into a well-bounded document, then send it directly to the hiring manager. Make it registered mail; to be signed for.
- Send a soft copy to the hiring manager
- Call two days later to speak to the hiring manager. Introduce yourself as the person who sent the solution document. Ask for a meeting.
- Be well prepared to propose a day rate or salary when you meet.
I will like to hear from you about your success with this direct approach. It has never failed when employed. It is unusual, it is refreshing, and it has worked for others. Why not you?
